Health Effects of Exposure to PFAS

February 23, 2021

Please join the NEWMOA for a webinar on the prevalence of poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the environment and the risks it might pose to the public.

1:30 to 3:00 (Eastern) on February 23, 2021

Dr. Angela Perez, Center for Toxicology and Environmental Health (CTEH) will present an overview of the state of the science related to adverse human health effects of PFAS exposure. Dr. Perez will summarize epidemiological evidence of cholesterol modulation in occupational and community-based studies and will discuss disparities in data interpretation between the study types.

Dr. Carmen Messerlian, Harvard University School of Public Health will summarize the experimental and human evidence on the immunotoxic effects of PFAS exposure. She will present recent findings using data from both the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) and the Faroese Islands on the impact of PFAS exposure on immune function among children and adolescents.
