The Division of Public Health is accepting applications for an Environmental Program Consultant.  The Environmental Program Consultant works in the Health Assessment, Consultation and Education Program (HACE) funded by a grant with the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR). The program’s goal is to eliminate and/or reduce adverse health effects from exposure to environmental contaminants primarily at hazardous waste sites throughout the state.
 
The primary purpose of this position is to conduct public health/toxicological risk assessments for hazardous waste throughout the state using ATSDR’s guidelines.  This position gathers and evaluates all available relevant environmental exposure data, health effects data (toxicological, epidemiological, medical, and health outcome data), and community health concerns to determine actual or potential exposure pathways and public health risk. This position also develops and makes recommendations on actions to reduce or eliminate public health risk.

This Environmental Program Consultant position is supervisory and serves as the principal investigator for the ATSDR grant.

The Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Branch investigates workplace and environmental conditions that may pose a risk to human health. Our expertise includes epidemiology, toxicology, industrial hygiene, and health communications. We identify and quantify environmental concerns for public health surveillance, provide medical consultation for exposures of concern at work or in communities, conduct risk assessments, and provide scientifically-based guidance on acceptable levels of exposure to environmental contaminants.
 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES:

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


Master's degree in one of the agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience related to the area of assignment;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
