March 3, 2022

Postdoctoral Research Associate, Environmental and Soil Chemistry, Department of Plant, Soil and Microbial Sciences, Michigan State University

Michigan State University Department of Plant, Soil and Microbial Sciences seeks a postdoctoral research associate to conduct EPA- and USDA-funded projects to study the occurrence, sorption, transport, plant uptake and risk assessment of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs). The research includes the studies on analysis of PFAS and PPCPs in biosolids, sorption and transport in soils, plant uptake of PFAS and PPCPs, and the associated risk assessment. The experiments will be conducted in laboratory, greenhouse, and field trial plots. Research activities include, but not limited to, analytical method development, data collection from wet chemistry experiments, data analysis, elucidation of fundamental mechanism, preparation of reports, manuscripts and proposals, and presentation of research at local, regional, and national meetings. Postdoctoral research associate will also help supervise graduate and undergraduate students, manage laboratory operation, interact with collaborators on field trials, and stakeholder and community engagement.

The position is available immediately through the grants from our recently EPA- and USDA-funded projects. The postdoctoral associate position will be appointed for one year, and be possibly renewable depending on funding status and working visa permit. A Ph.D. in soil chemistry, environmental chemistry, analytical chemistry, environmental engineering, plant science, or a related discipline is required. Experience in PFAS analysis using LC-MS/MS and analytical method development is preferred. The successful candidate should have the demonstrated ability to design experiments to test hypothesis, conduct independent research, and publish manuscript(s) in peer-reviewed journals.

The position is currently open. The review process will begin immediately and continue until filled. Please send your cover letter, CV, and a list of three references to Hui Li ([email protected]) with the email subject of postdoctoral associate or graduate assistant application.
