3M-Decatur to cut 170 jobs, scale back as it phases out PFAS manufacturing

"3M-Decatur plans to lay off about 170 employees and reduce production at its facility by early 2028, according to WAFF 48 News partners, The Decatur Daily.

The changes are part of 3M’s broader move to phase out manufacturing of PFAS, commonly known as “forever chemicals” due to their persistence in the environment.

The company said it will stop producing PFAS entirely by the end of 2025.

According to 3M, the Decatur plant will begin transitioning away from chemical production as soon as the end of this year, with the process expected to be completed by early 2028."
