"Firefighters who responded to the Maui wildfires had elevated levels of PFAs, a manmade chemical linked to cancer, in their bloodstream, according to a new wildfire report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The report emerged Thursday after a federal scientific publication — the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report — returned from a two-week hiatus forced by the Trump administration with two papers examining the health effects of wildfires in Hawaii and California.
The journal typically publicizes disease investigations, health trends and other public health developments, and is considered of high importance among public health leaders and some legislators. It has never before disappeared for two weeks."
