"The U.S. Navy held an open-house style meeting at Atlantic Elementary School on May 22 to continue its ongoing effort to test private wells near Marine Corps Outlying Landing Field Atlantic for PFAS contamination.

Held in the school gymnasium over a two-hour window, the event drew around 100 residents who reviewed large-format displays and spoke directly with representatives from the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, Environmental Protection Agency, N.C. Department of Environmental Quality and Carteret County officials.

The purpose was twofold: to inform the public about the water sampling process and to secure consent from additional homeowners for private well testing."
