Mahwah, NJ resident files class-action lawsuit over water contaminated by ‘forever chemicals’

“A Mahwah resident filed a class-action suit against the township on Tuesday seeking to close a contaminated well and to compensate residents for following the township’s directives on bottled water and medical consultations.

Attorneys Joseph Osefchen and Michael Galpern filed the complaint on behalf of resident Shenell Harris in Superior Court in Bergen County. Township Administrator Ben Kezmarsky declined to comment.

The suit seeks compensation for “all New Jersey citizens” who received the Jan. 13 letter from the township’s Water Department advising residents of elevated PFOS levels in their drinking water. They were told to seek medical advice on drinking the water and to use bottled water for cooking and drinking as a precaution.

The township is obligated to pay for bottled water and medical evaluation deemed necessary in that letter, according to the complaint.”…
