"Four of Michigan’s Democratic representatives joined with Republicans from New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia on Tuesday in introducing a bill they say would close major regulatory gaps and strengthen government oversight on PFAS air pollution.

U.S. Reps. Haley Stevens (D-Birmingham), Debbie Dingell (D-Ann Arbor), Rashida Tlaib (D-Detroit) and Hillary Scholten (D-Grand Rapids) introduced the Prevent Release of Toxic Emissions, Contamination, and Transfer – or PROTECT – Act alongside Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.), Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.), and Jen Kiggans (R-Va.).

If passed into law, the Protect Act would require the Environmental Protection Agency to classify PFAS, or Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances, as hazardous pollutants under the Clean Air Act."
