Missouri water districts exceed federal limits for PFAS contamination

"At least five Missouri water districts reported PFAS levels above federal limits, according to Environmental Protection Agency data. One Missouri city has contamination levels nearly three times the federal limit.

PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are known as “forever chemicals” because they do not break down in the environment. The chemicals are found in hundreds of household items, including cookware, carpeting, clothing, cosmetics, electronics, and packaging. PFAS are also used in firefighting foam on military bases.
