"If you live in a Virginia Beach neighborhood where you often hear the sound of freedom from the jets flying out of Naval Air Station Oceana, the U.S. Navy wants to hear from you.

Starting this month, the Navy is requesting permission from property owners to sample wells that are used for drinking water. Scientists are testing water samples for toxins called PFAS (perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances) that could flow in the direction of ground water.

As 10 On Your Side has reported, Oceana is among three places under assessment by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry for the forever chemicals that are found in the foam that is used to extinguish fires."
