Plasreco promotes PFAS-free coating solutions for packaging, leather and textiles

"Functional coatings providing water repellence, stain resistance or non-stick properties are widely used in packaging, leather and textile applications. Many of these treatments rely on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which are increasingly restricted in the European Union due to their environmental persistence, toxicity and tendency to accumulate in living organisms.

In response, the Plasreco project aims to develop PFAS-free, silicon-based functional coatings applied using atmospheric plasma technology. This approach enables the deposition of nanometric layers with significantly reduced chemical consumption and improved process sustainability. The technology is compatible with a wide range of substrates, including porous and flexible materials such as leather, textiles and paper."
