"When I moved to Texas more than 30 years ago I discovered that Ross Perot Jr. — whose father had just run for president — built his first master planned subdivision, I signed up immediately. 

My imagination went into overdrive. I pictured men required to wear white shirts, skinny ties and crew cuts, like Junior’s dad. Women, I figured, couldn’t wear pants, and skirt hemlines had to stay below the knee. Homeowners association meetings probably debated the budget deficit."
