"Researchers at the University of Notre Dame are sharing findings from a study on perfluorinated substances (PFAS), known as “forever chemicals,” in a wide range of feminine hygiene products.

Graham Peaslee, professor of physics in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Notre Dame, and graduate student Alyssa Wicks are presenting their results at a meeting of the American Chemical Society this weekend, which will be submitted for a peer-reviewed publication soon after the conference.

The researchers tested more than 100 samples, consisting of both packaging and individual products, for fluorinated compounds including menstrual underwear, disposable and reusable pads, tampons, menstrual cups, panty liners and disposable and reusable incontinence underwear."
