The Children’s Place dodges lawsuit over ‘forever chemicals’ in school uniforms

“A U.S. judge has dismissed a proposed class action lawsuit filed by an Illinois mother against The Children’s Place for allegedly selling school uniforms that contain toxic ‘forever chemicals’ without proper warnings.

U.S. District Judge Matthew Kennelly in Chicago said that it is ‘at least plausible’ that school uniforms purchased by Chicago mother Angala Garland and other parents contain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS. But Garland has not shown the company lied or misled consumers about it in marketing materials even if they do, he said.

PFAS are a class of chemicals that are used in hundreds of consumer products. Often called forever chemicals because they do not easily break down, they are used in clothing and other products to make them water and stain resistant. Exposure to PFAS has been linked to hormone disruption, certain cancers and other health concerns."
