'Forever Chemical' legislation in Maryland fails

"A legislative effort to limit the amount of so-called "forever chemicals" released into Maryland’s environment has failed.
Scientists warn that many of these toxic chemicals, such as PFAS, are in sewage sludge, which utilities refer to as biosolids that are processed to be spread on agricultural fields.
Biosolids are processed and sold as compost and fertilizer, which are then spread on thousands of acres of farmland across the state. On Tuesday, a key Maryland Senate Committee rejected a bill that aimed to impose stricter limits on the concentration of forever chemicals in sludge shipped to farms."
