"States should monitor for PFAS in locally caught freshwater fish, the Environmental Protection Agency announced Thursday.
The EPA included per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) for the first time alongside cyanotoxins, arsenic, lead, pesticides and other pollutants in its national guidance and recommendations for which contaminants states should monitor in their fish and shellfish advisory programs.
The agency recommends that if a reference dose of PFAS is detected in locally caught edible fish, states should issue a public health advisory."
