"PFAS, also known as forever chemicals, have been the subject of lots of research and worry recently.
Now, a study by the UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health finds that most Wisconsinites already have PFAS in their bloodstream.
The manufactured, human-made chemicals can be found in anything from clothing to food packaging, items that most people use in their daily lives. While they do have useful purposes, PFAS are linked to multiple health problems like cancer and high cholesterol.
Amy Schultz, lead researcher, epidemiologist, and senior data scientist with Real-World Evidence to Advance Community Health (REACH), says, “[PFAS have] been associated with several health outcomes that are quite prevalent and concerning, but again, there’s still so much we don’t know.”
