"UMass Lowell researchers are investigating PFAS exposure among construction workers, the university recently announced in a press release.

PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are found in materials like paints, varnishes and adhesives. They're known as "forever chemicals" because they persist in the environment and accumulate in the human body, potentially causing health issues like kidney disease and cancer.

The UMass Lowell research team, led by Associate Dean Dhimiter Bello and Public Health Research Associate Professor Anila Bello, received a $600,000 grant from The Center for Construction Research and Training, funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health."
