"Consumers in New Mexico and beyond may soon see a new warning label put on everything from nonstick pans and furniture to cosmetics and baby clothes that contain intentionally added per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
“It’s time we just shine a light on this,” James Kenney, secretary of the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED), tells C&EN. On Wednesday, his department released its proposed rule to implement the state’s PFAS Protection Act, passed in April.
The law both outlaws PFAS in some products and requires warning labels. While the phase-out follows similar laws in Maine and Minnesota, the broad labeling requirements would be a world first and have drawn significant industry attention."
