"Which products should be labeled as containing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances — often referred to as “forever chemicals” — split the Environmental Improvement Board on Friday as members discussed a proposed rule on the use of the chemicals in consumer products.

The schism wasn’t resolved, as one of the members struggled to join the meeting online and was unable to cast a deciding vote on two key issues: which products should be subject to the labeling requirements and when those requirements should go into effect.

Members of the board, which is part of the state Environment Department, decided to return the morning of Monday, March 23, to finalize deliberations. The hearing on the rule started Feb. 23."
