"Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced new PFA-related legislation on Thursday.

PFAS chemicals are contaminants found in common consumer products, industrial applications, and firefighting foam. These chemicals have been linked to health problems such as developmental delays, changes in the liver, immune system, and thyroid function, and increased risk of cancer.

The PFAS Accountability Act seeks to make it easier for contaminated victims to sue manufacturers. Another part of this new act allows the victims to be given medical monitoring for early detection and treatment for diseases associated with PFAS exposure."
