PFAS in German children: Human biomonitoring data highlight urgent need for group restriction
News
23 Jul 2020 | CHEM Trust
One-fifth of the participants had levels of the PFAS chemical PFOA in their blood that exceeded the HBM-I-value, which indicates an exposure at which harmful effects cannot be excluded.
-
Study: Novel PFAS comprise 24% of those measured in blood of Wilmington, N.C. residents
News
23 Jul 2020 | NC State News
The fluoroethers – Nafion byproduct 2, PFO4DA and PFO5DoA – these are the first measurements of these chemicals in humans. Two other fluoroethers, PFO3OA and NVHOS, were infrequently detected. Nearly all samples had at least one fluoroether present, but GenX was not found in any samples.

Cooking methods affect the intake of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) from grass carp
Science
22 Jul 2020 | Ecotoxicol. Environ. Saf.
The effects of various cooking methods (boiling, steaming, grilling, and frying) on the levels of PFASs in fish muscle and the intake of PFASs were explored.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances in ducks and the relationship with concentrations in water, sediment, and soil
Science
22 Jul 2020 | Environ. Toxicol. Chem.
Elevated PFOS and PFOS+PFHxS concentrations in ducks were observed near local point-sources, but also at wetlands with no known point-sources of contamination.

Accumulation of six PFAS compounds by woody and herbaceous plants: potential for phytoextraction
Science
14 Jul 2020 | Int J Phytoremediation
PFPeA, PFHxA, PFOA, PFBS, PFHxS, and PFOS were successfully remediated using herbaceous and woody plant species.
-
Are feathers of a songbird model species (the great tit: ) suitable for monitoring perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) in blood plasma?
Science
14 Jul 2020 | Environ. Sci. Technol.
Results suggest that feathers cannot be used to estimate PFOA and PFOS concentrations in blood plasma, except when there is a great deal of variation in pollutant concentrations among sites/individual birds.
-
Serum Half-Lives for Short- and Long-Chain Perfluoroalkyl Acids after Ceasing Exposure from Drinking Water Contaminated by Firefighting Foam
Science
13 Jul 2020 | Environ. Health Perspect.
Branched PFOS isomers had shorter half-lives than linear PFOS isomers in contaminated human blood.
-
A Probabilistic Approach to Evaluate the Risk of Decreased Total Triiodothyronine Hormone Levels following Chronic Exposure to PFOS and PFHxS via Contaminated Drinking Water
