Wisconsin: Dept. of Health Services recommends 20 ppt groundwater quality standard for PFOA and PFOS

June 21, 2019

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services issued its recommendations for groundwater quality standards for PFOA and PFOS. The health-based threshold of 20 parts per trillion is for the summed total concentration of both chemicals in groundwater – the source of drinking water for more than two-thirds of Wisconsin residents. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is also currently working on developing health-based thresholds for 24 other PFAS compounds, which will be published later this year. All proposed thresholds must be approved by the state legislature before they go into effect.
